THERAPY FOCUS
I've been in practice for over 20 years in Adrian, Michigan, offering help to individuals and families from southeast Michigan and northwest Ohio. Although I treat most emotional problems, my primary focus is on depression, anxiety, phobias and eating disorders of adolescents and adults.

I work with girls and boys from the age of 13 and women and men of all ages.

APPROACH TO THERAPY
During therapy sessions you will be supported as you begin to make changes. I'll give you ideas of more helpful ways to think about your problems and you'll have the opportunity to learn and practice new skills. Believe it or not, we usually find ways to laugh as we work together.

The approach that I feel most comfortable with is centered in cognitive behavioral therapy, which has been documented to be one of the most valid and helpful psychotherapies developed to date. At times I draw on other approaches as well. You are welcome to ask questions about why we are doing what we're doing. Because I teach college courses in psychology, I am able to stay up-to-date.

In addition, I try to work in a short-term framework. This is accomplished in two ways. First, we develop your goals together at the beginning of therapy. Second, at the end of most sessions, we set an assignment or two that helps you apply and practice what we have worked on that day. In this way you deepen and extend what has gone on each session.

As therapy nears its end, we work on ways to maintain the gains you have made.
